Valentine’s Day Love

Wednesday, January 31st, 2018

Is sending a Valentine’s Day card to the special people in our lives passé? The same question goes for Christmas cards? If you send out Christmas cards,  I then believe the answer is no. Once or twice a year, pay it forward, support your postal service and buy that stamp. Snail mail still needs to be utilized as it can’t disappear. Many people rely on it. More on that in a another blog post. We all sent out Valentines when we were young in elementary school. Why can’t we do so as adults? Have a little heart-to-heart and write your main squeeze a sweet (or spicy) Valentine’s Day love letter.

Happy Robbie Burns Day 2018!

Robbie Burns Day 2018

Even though Robert Burns passed away at the age of 37 of rheumatic heart disease, he is always remembered every year. Robbie Burns Day is celebrated as a Scottish national holiday on January 25th. On this day, not only Scots honour his poetic life and spirit but people all around the world. Celebrations include: playing bagpipes, reading his poetry, feasting on traditional Scottish food, such as Haggis and dressing in a kilt and other other Scottish attire. If you haven’t celebrated Robbie Burns Day before, why not, it’s a lot of fun!

A Red, Red Rose – Robert Burns (1794)

O my Luve is like a red, red rose
   That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve is like the melody
   That’s sweetly played in tune.

So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
   So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
   Till a’ the seas gang dry.

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
   And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
I will love thee still, my dear,
   While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only luve!
   And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my luve,
   Though it were ten thousand mile.
If you aren’t Scottish you can always pretend with the Scot in the Box costume kit and join in the Robbie Burns celebrations!

Wonder Woman

Wednesday, October 4th, 2017

The top grossing movie of summer of 2017 was Wonder Woman. It raked in $406,838,875. Probably many people didn’t predict this movie would hold the top crown but when you have a summer of sequels, let’s face it, audiences just want fresh material.  Not only was the lead a female (Gal Gadot) but it was written and directed by a female (Patty Jenkins) as well. Way to go ladies!

Being a fan of the original TV show that aired from 1975 to 1979, I knew it would be awesome and it even exceeded my expectation.

This is how the movie should have ended laugh out loud…spoiler alert: If you haven’t seen the movie, don’t click on the video below:

How Wonder Woman Should End

This isn’t the only Wonder Woman movie taking over the box office this year. Another one that is set to release is called Professor Marston and the Wonder Women. Not knowing much about the roots of Wonder Woman, this is “The unconventional life story of Dr. William Marston, Harvard psychologist and inventor, and the relationship between his wife and his lover, who became her lover after his death, that inspired the iconic super heroine Wonder Woman.”

First Day of Autumn

Thursday, September 21st, 2017

Tick tock, tick tock…Soon it will be the summer of 2017 that was. When the calendar changes tomorrow, a new season is upon us.

Welcome first day of Autumn!

Although we are still in the throes of summer heat, coloured leaves, fall harvest, crisp air, sweaters, socks, warm drinks, pumpkins, turkey and Halloween are all creeping up!

Summer is officially coming to a close and Autumn 2017 will begin on Friday September 22 when the clock strikes 4:02 PM. That means we are into the third season and all sorts of fun, fall festivities can take place: Raking leaves and then jumping into a pile, fall decorating, celebrating Oktoberfest, attending a fall festival, hiking, getting lost in a corn maze, apple picking, canning fruit, going for a hayride, visiting a pumpkin patch, Trick or Treating and last but not least, remembering what you are thankful for. The Canadian Thanksgiving is on October 9th. We give thanks for the the harvest and the love and support family and friends give.

With all these mentioned, we have so much to look forward to.

What is your favourite Autumn activity?

Earth Day Resolutions

Earth Day!

Earth Day 2015 is just around the corner. This day is marked on April 22nd every year. Earth Day was founded in 1970 so this is the 45th anniversary. The first year was celebrated in New York City. “Let every individual and institution now think and act as a responsible trustee of Earth, seeking choices in ecology, economics and ethics that will provide a sustainable future, eliminate pollution, poverty and violence, awaken the wonder of life and foster peaceful progress in the human adventure.”

Today 192 countries celebrate this event. We all know earth day should be recognized everyday, right? With the arrival of spring, we see that carpet of litter so this must mean we all need reminders to appreciate and celebrate the planet we live on a wee bit more. The fight for a clean environment shouldn’t be put on the back burner as we all have the right to drink clean water and breath in clean air.

We’ve put together a list of fun products that are green and will lessen your family’s negative environmental impact on the earth. Maybe they can help you make some Earth Day Resolutions.
